Tarpon Sprinters Ready for District Meet

The sprint races are the showcase events at any track meet.  There’s something about all-out speed over a short distance that just naturally takes the eye and attracts attention.

The District 32-4A track and field meet is being held this week at Tarpon Stadium in Port Isabel, and a number of Port Isabel High speed merchants are contenders for top honors in races that call for sprinters’ speed.

The events in question are the 100-meter, 200-meter, and 400-meter dashes, and the 4×100-meter and 4×200-meter relay races.  The Press found head P.I. boys’ track and field coach Joe Gonzales in his classroom at the high school this week, and he shared his thoughts on these races and the runners he expects to have in them.
