It’s a rare coach who is not optimistic about the new season and Port Isabel High athletic director and head football coach Monty Stumbaugh is no exception.  The Press found Stumbaugh in the high school athletic offices recently and he shared his thoughts and expectations for the 2016 football season.

For one thing, he emphasized the importance of off-season workouts. “The kids are having a good off-season,” Stumbaugh said.  “We told them what they do in the off-season, through the summer, will determine what kind of year they’re going to have.”

The head man also spoke about personal health and conditioning. “We preach to them about taking care of their bodies and doing the right things over the summer, so they can come in in good shape.”
