Former Port Isabel Lady Tarpon track and field athlete Daniela Murchison is back home in Port Isabel after a very successful first year of academics and athletics at Southern Methodist University (SMU) in Dallas.  The Press sat down with the three-time state shot put champion recently and asked about all things collegiate for the 2015 Port Isabel High graduate.

For one thing Murchison is completely happy and satisfied with SMU as her school of choice.

“I’m more than sure I chose the right school,” Murchison told the Press last week.  “When I was deciding what school I was going to go to I wasn’t thinking just athletics.  I was also thinking where I was going to get the best education.  SMU was the best pick.”
