The South Padre Island City Council held a public hearing to discuss the annexation of land related to Clayton’s fishing pier during a special session held on Wednesday, Nov. 15.

According to the meeting agenda, the land to be annexed consists of “the tracts described as certain waterways and submerged lands belonging to the State of Texas, laying and being situated to the east of Lots 16 and 17 Padre Beach Estate Subdivision and Contran Subdivision Lot 2, out of Gulf of Mexico, and a 10-foot width southernmost piece of Andy Bowie Park in Cameron County, Texas, that totaling 6.61 acres.”

Mayor Barry Patel opened the hearing, calling for anyone who wanted to speak in favor of the proposal. Clayton Brashear, owner of the land where the pier is to be developed, stepped forward.
