The Port Isabel High Lady Tarpons started the district season off with a bang Tuesday night. They went on the road to play the Zapata Lady Hawks and took the win, 75-53.
“The girls got off (the bus) ready to go,” first-year Head Coach Hannah Burleson told the Press Wednesday. “We played our style of basketball.”
Port Isabel led start-to-finish and was in front, 15-8 at the end of one quarter, 39-16 at the half, and 58-32 at the start of the fourth quarter.
Defense is key, especially when a team wins by 20 or more points and Coach Burleson was pleased with her team’s defensive performance.
“Our girls were really anticipating well,” Burleson said. “(We) had quite a few steals,” she said.
