The South Padre Island Convention and Visitors Advisory Board (CVA) considered three marketing related proposals during their Thursday, April 5 meeting. Committee members first considered a $22,856 request to be allocated for the FY 2017-18 advertising and marketing budget for a Homeschool Pilot Program.

Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) Director Keith Arnold provided information regarding the request. Arnold explained the item stems from changes that have occurred regarding the starting dates of Texas school districts. “The (Texas State) legislature let up the whole mandate that we had put in place with TTIA (Texas Travel Industry Association) eight years ago, which was to have school start after the fourth Monday of the month,” said Arnold referring to the month of August.
