Boys’ hoops run past MMA

The Port Isabel Tarpon hoops squad took down the Leathernecks of the Marine Military Academy (MMA) Tuesday night, 79-50, in the first game of the season at the Florence E. King Athletic Center in Harlingen.

The Tarpons led 7-0 in the early going but MMA caught up and took a 13-7 lead before the end of the first quarter.  Several lead changes followed and Port Isabel led 35-31 at the break.

“They were a much improved team than the one we faced the last time we played against them,” Head Coach Mike Hazelton said afterwards.  “They broke our press pretty easy in the first half, so we had to switch up what we were going to do in the second half.”
