Fees for contractors to secure work permits for remodeling, plumbing and electrical services will soon increase in Laguna Vista.
Town Councilmembers Tuesday voted to update their 2004 fee schedule to bring it more in line with other communities’ rates.
“This just brings us up-to-date with other cities,” Mayor Susie Houston said. “The increases do not recover all of our costs of service, but it helps,” she said of the new fee structure.
Building inspection permits will increase from a minimum fee of $25 to $50 and inspection fees climb from $25 to $200.
“Our inspectors, who we have under contract, charge the town $30 for inspection. On average, for new construction, our inspector conducts 10 to 15 inspections per house,” City Manager Rolando Vela told councilmembers, explaining the cost adjustment.
