The Port Isabel Lady Tarpons traveled to La Feria and lost a hard-fought district basketball game, 50-41, last Friday night.
P.I. led by five at the end of a quarter of play, was outscored 17-5 in the second quarter, and could never quite catch up in the second half.
“We had 15 points first quarter, finished with (51),” Lady Tarpons Head Coach Hannah Burleson said afterwards. “We don’t knock down free throws and they out-played us. They wanted it more than we did.”
Port Isabel trailed by seven to start the third quarter and could not get closer than six the rest of the way. The Lady Tarpons hit 10 of 21 free throws in the second half.
