The year in sports

The future does indeed look bright for Port Isabel High sports, and in some ways the future is now.

For the second year in a row the Tarpon football program started with a new coach.  In 2018, the Tarpons were coming off a season in which they won only two games.  You have to go all the way back to 1971 to find the last time a P.I. football team won as few as two games.  In the intervening years, going up through 2017, the Tarpons had only four losing seasons.

Enter new head football coach and athletic director, Jason Strunk, who came to P.I. from Lubbock High School and began setting up for business in his new office at Port Isabel High in June.
