The Port Isabel Tarpons broke open a close game against the Grulla Gators in the fourth quarter and won Tuesday night’s District 32-4A game, 64-52 at Tarpon Gym.
La Grulla got off to a fast start and led the Tarpons 10-2 in the first quarter. The Gators led by as many as 10 points, 28-18 and 32-22, in the second quarter.
La Grulla led 17-16 at the start of the second quarter, 39-34 at the half, and 46-43 at the end of three quarters of play.
In the fourth quarter, the Tarpons got hot from long range as Tommy Zurita and Cole Pinkerton made four three-pointers between them, and Pinkerton added a three-point play with a free throw after he made a steal.
