Last Friday was certainly windy, cold, overcast and just a tad nasty out, but that didn’t stop over 300 volunteers from picking up trash on the beaches of South Padre Island.

Friday marked the 33rd annual Adopt-A-Beach cleanup, sponsored by the Texas General Land Office (GLO). Foul weather forced a last-minute location change, however, with things moving from E.K. Atwood Park to County Beach Access #2.

Steve Dondero, a Winter Texan from northern Idaho, was one of the hundreds who had volunteered his time to be there. “We were just being environmentally responsible,” Dondero said, explaining why he chose to participate.

“We enjoy it down here and are just doing our part to help out.”
