The Boys soccer team hosted the Jubilee Brownsville Titans this past Tuesday, January 14. The visiting Titans beat the Tarpons 3-0, with all the scoring done in the first half. The second half got more aggressive, as several players collided and had to go to the bench. The Tarpons defense held the Titans scoreless in the second half but, unfortunately, the offense still could not punch it in after several attempts. Port Isabel’s record now stands at 2-2. Their other defeat was a 2-0 loss at the hands of the Progreso Red Ants this past Friday, January 10, night. The Red Ants look to have another solid team this year on both sides of the ball. In that game, Tarpon goalie Juan Martinez was kept on his toes all game long. He was credited with six saves but was scored against twice in 80 minutes of play.

“(We) played two tough teams and learned a lot from them,” head Port Isabel soccer coach, Joshua Kirton, said. “We’ll get better. Last night we didn’t play well as a team. But we’ll bounce back on Friday!”

The Tarpons next game will be on Friday, January 17, when they travel to Brownsville to face IDEA Frontier at 6:00 p.m. Port Isabel’s JV team fell to Santa Maria Cougars 7-0 on Tuesday and will play versus Rio Hondo at home on Friday, January 17, at 6:00 p.m. The Lady Tarpons soccer team will also play at home versus IDEA Frontier at 7:30 p.m.
