The South Texas Ecotourism Center (STEC), located off highway 100, has announced that it will be hosting a fall speaker series. This series will consist of expert speakers giving presentations at STEC over a multitude of nature-centered topics. All talks will take place at the center from 5:30 – 7 p.m.
Edward Meza, director of STEC kicked off the series on Aug. 10 with a discussion revolving around STEC.
The next speaker the community can look forward to is Sofia Garza, a South Texas based nature enthusiast. Her talk is titled “Using Scat and Tracks to Identify Native Animals”. Garza is currently serving as a Community Volunteer Ambassador at Palo Alto National Historic Park. Her talk will take place on Thursday, Aug. 24.
Following Garza’s presentation will be Agusto Sanchez on Sept. 7. Sanchez is the Natural Resources Coordinator for Department of Transportation for Cameron County. His talk is titled “Sustainable Building and Water Collection”.
On Sept. 21, Marilyn Lorenz will present her talk, “Fall Bird Migration.” Lorenz has been a Texas Master Naturalist since 2015 and is a regular guide at the South Padre Island Birding, Nature Center & Alligator Sanctuary (SPIBNCAS).
