On Sunday, Sept. 24, club members had the opportunity to volunteer at the Laguna Madre Humane Society’s [LMHS] Barktoberfest held at and with the help of Hopper Haus Bar & Grill in Port Isabel. The event showcased cats and dogs in need of “fur-ever” homes and allowed pet owners to bring their pets out to enjoy the music and food.

LMHS offers low-cost medical care and education for pet owners. Those interested in adopting/fostering or volunteering can contact LMHS today at (956) 266-3140.

Rotarian of the week Mike Carrera invited Micah Hirschfield with Glenfarne Companies to visit the club this week.

Hirschfield, Head of Communications for Texas LNG’s majority owner and operator, Glenfarne Energy Transition, joined the Rotary’s lunch to provide an overview of Glenfarne’s broader businesses, which aim to address the “here and now” global energy transition through three core businesses: Global LNG Solutions, Renewables, and Grid Stability. Hirschfield also updated the rotary on Texas LNG, a multi-decade liquid natural gas shipping terminal being constructed on the Port of Brownsville’s north shore, and its progress to a final investment decision. He also shared what is specifically being done to position Texas LNG as one of the greenest LNG facilities in the world, including using renewable energy to power the electric drives (instead of gas turbines) that will run the facility. He compared Texas LNG’s emissions profile to other LNG plants in the U.S., and what is being planned to ensure that local businesses can participate in the construction and operation of the facility.
