Dennis Stahl, who served as mayor of South Padre Island from 2017 until his resignation in 2019, was arrested on Monday on a charge of solicitation of prostitution, according to law‑enforcement records.

The  arrest  stems  from an  October  1  incident  at  a  restaurant  on  the Island, where a 22‑year‑old employee reported that Stahl offered her $500 for sex twice a month while he was dining with his family. The woman said the conversation made her “very upset and uncomfortable.”

Investigators say the woman   left   and   told other  staff  members what  happened,  and  Stahl  left  the  venue  before  officers  arrived. Authorities later identified him via the license‑plate number of the vehicle he used to depart.

Stahl was booked into the Cameron County Sheriff’s Office Carrizales‑Rucker Detention Center and released on a $5,000 bond.

In a statement to investigators after the incident reached him, Stahl declined to discuss the alleged remarks made. According to the affidavit, he  did  say  the  employee “was a sweet little girl.”

The case remains under investigation by the Texas Rangers and other law‑enforcement agencies. Authorities say additional witnesses have provided statements.

Some information for this reported was obtained from Valleycentral.com.
