Each year, Port Isabel and South Padre Island alternate organization of the memorial event, and this year, it will take place on Tuesday, Sept. 15 at 9 a.m. at the base of the Causeway at Queen Isabella Memorial Park on South Padre Island. The ceremony will consist of an Honor Guard, invocation by Pastor Bill Wadell of Island Baptist Church and a moment of silence. The committee thanked Hancock for her work on the event and moved on to discuss progress regarding the Community Center Project. The project has been on hold for the past four weeks to allow for the raised concrete floor to cure. Contractors are currently staining the floor and will proceed with indoor and exterior improvements including painting, sidewalk improvements, and installing air conditioning, which will successfully complete phases one and two. The City Council has agreed to award phase three during the next fiscal year due to budgetary limitations. The committee plans to address parking concerns for the center in the future
