The Port Isabel Lady Tarpons basketball team has won one and lost one to gain a split in their last two games of the 2015-2016 season.
Last Friday they were all over the Lady Red Ants of Progreso, winning in the end, 57-43. At La Feria this past Monday, P.I. lost by the nearly identical score of 57-41.
Port Isabel ends the season with a 5-9 record in district play (12-22 overall), which places the team 5th in the final standings of District 32-4A. La Feria wins the district outright with a 12-2 league record. Zapata, which came into last Friday’s game with La Feria tied for first place, finishes second at 11-3, after losing to La Feria, 40-28, and beating Rio Hondo on Monday, 44-35. Rio Hondo and Hidalgo finish in a tie for third place, both with 10-4 records.Hidalgo and Rio Hondo will play this Friday at Rio Hondo in a playoff seeding game; the winner will be the No. 3 seed, the loser No. 4.
The freshmen Lady Tarpons team lost to La Feria, 35-14, and the JV team lost, 38-12. The former finish the season with at 5-6 in district and 9-10 overall, and the latter at 10-4, 14-8.
