The Port Isabel Press is proud to help sponsor the 4th Annual Hooked for Life Mayor Joe E. Vega’s Kids Fishing Classic in Port Isabel.
The friendly competitive event will cast off at 8 a.m. on Saturday, April 9 at the Pirate’s Landing Fishing Pier.
“It’s a great event for the kids,” Mayor Vega told the Parade this week. “We have 50 volunteers at this event,” he continued. The volunteers will be ready to assist any kids having trouble casting off or reeling their fish in.
The event is open for children ages 4 – 16 years old. Anglers will be divided into three age groups: 4 – 6 years old, 7 – 11 years old, and 12 – 16 years old. The first 200 kids will receive a free rod-and-reel combo and a t-shirt, while the first through third place finishers in each category will be awarded trophies. One overall tourney winner will be honored, as well.
