The last time that the Tarpons captured a District crown was in 2005; however, the Port Isabel Tarpon baseball team clinched a share of the 2016 District championship by winning over La Feria 11-1 in five innings. The game was called in bottom of fifth due to the UIL 10 Run Rule.
Tarpon winning pitcher Kaleb Martinez went the distance walking two, allowing three hits and only one run. The Tarpon defensive team committed one error and still holds on to a .938 fielding percentage. Base runner Daniel Martinez stole one base, as did Mark Martinez. Jeremy Martinez collected two steals in the game action.
