An artistic message of support has been completed on Padre Boulevard, in perfect timing to mark the end of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
On Dec. 30, 2021, the Port Isabel South Padre Press reported that a variance request from the owners of Paradise Beachwear, located at 2216 Padre Blvd, asking for permission from the Development Standards Review Task Force of South Padre Island to paint a mural on the exterior of the building, promoting Breast Cancer Awareness, was rejected. This meeting occurred on Dec. 14, 2021, and task force members present at the time were Cindi Love, Gabriel Vanounou, Gary Johnson, and Brian Kohl.
Kohl was quoted as explaining that the reason the request was rejected was due to the task force’s code not allowing murals.

According to Anat Tafel, owner of Paradise Beachwear, she had sent an employee of hers to the Zoning Commission meeting on June 16, 2022. That is when the request for the mural was approved.
The mural was completed by artist Marcos Zamudio on Oct. 30.
