Two South Padre Island staples, Sea Turtle Inc. and The Whites of Texas, are coming together to form a partnership that will benefit sea turtles for years to come.
The Whites of Texas is a musical duo that consists of high school sweethearts, Robby and Danielle White, who have been married for the last 29 years.
Robby estimates he has been in the music business for about 20 years. Danielle joined him, forming the duo, The Whites of Texas, in 2020.
He jokes, in a somewhat serious manor, that their music is “Y’allternative”.
“It’s Texas music. I hesitate to say county music, ‘cause that makes people think of Luke Bryan – not that there’s anything wrong with that- it’s just not what we do,” explained Robby.
According to Robby, what The Whites of Texas has, is substance, and Wendy Knight, CEO of Sea Turtle Inc., agrees, as does Chuck Allen Floyd.
Floyd is a music producer in Nashville Tennessee, who has been an acquaintance of the Whites for some time. According to Robby, Floyd is a former record label executive, and a staff songwriter for several record labels.
Three months ago, Floyd called Robby “out of the blue”. They discussed producing a Whites of Texas album, but that wasn’t all. They would be partnering with Sea Turtle Inc. so that a percentage of the royalties made off of sales of the album, would benefit the turtle-rescuing and rehabilitating non-profit.
“I wanted to do something that will make a long-term impact for Sea Turtle Inc.” said Robby.
