This Tuesday, November 29, the Lady Tarpons hosted the Harvest Christian Academy (HCA) Eagles in a non-district matchup. From the opening buzzer, the Eagles offense proved to be too much for the Lady Tarpons as the Lady Eagles cruised to a 107-42 win.
The Lady Eagles potent offense opened the game with an 11-0 run. After missing their first six shots, the Lady Tarpons finally got on the scoreboard with a basket by Hannah Mata halfway into the first quarter. They wouldn’t score again until a minute left in the first as Layni Mata made back-to-back baskets.
Meanwhile, the Lady Eagles’ offense started to make several three-pointers as they extended their lead to 24-7 to close out the first quarter.
The Lady Eagles continued their dominance in the second quarter as they extended their lead to 56-16 behind the duo of Riley McClaugherty and Ashley Gonzalez, who combined to make seven out of 14 three pointers. Defensively, the Lady Eagles full-court press put the Lady Tarpons back on their heels as they forced 12 turnovers in the first half.
