The Port Isabel Tarpons came in second place at the Brownsville ISD Basketball Tournament held Thursday, Dec. 1. The Tarpons got a great start in the three-day tournament as they picked up wins against Mission Veterans Memorial (67-46) and Brownsville Rivera (55-54) on day one. On the following Friday morning the Tarpons then secured a win against Brownsville Porter (64-54) to finish 3-0 in pool play. Having advanced to the Platinum bracket, the Tarpons then beat Brownsville Pace (56-45) later in the day. On Saturday, the   Tarpons picked up win number five with a 47-39 win over Brownsville Lopez to secure trip to the championship game. The Championship game featured two undefeated teams in 4A Port Isabel versus the 6A Brownsville Hanna Eagles. Unfortunately for the Tarpons, their win-streak came to an end as Hanna jumped out to an early lead and didn’t relinquish it on their way to a 62-38 win. The Eagles’ size played a significant role in the loss as they came into the game with two 6’-3” centers as well as 6’-2” Ricardo Roman Jr- who was later named  Tournament  MVP.
