Cameron County Tax Assessor-Collector, Antonio “Tony” Yzaguirre urges taxpayers once again to take advantage of tax discounts available to property owners who pay their taxes early. Payments made in the month of Dec. will receive a 1% discount only for the districts that offer those discounts. There are no discounts for taxes paid in Jan. 2023, however due to the last day of the month falling on a Saturday and offices being closed to observe the New Year holiday, the last day to receive the 1% discount will be moved to Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2023. Property taxes for the year 2022 are due Jan. 31, 2023 and become delinquent Feb. 1, 2023.
The following tax discounts will be given to those taxpayers that pay their property taxes early for Cameron County and those districts that provide them (Texas Property Tax Code 31.05).
Oct. 2022……………3% discount
Nov. 2022………….2% discount
Dec. 2022…………1% Discount
Jan. 2023…………no discount (Taxes Due)
If a taxpayer does not receive their consolidated 2022 Tax Statement, they can view their account online at www.cameroncountytax.org or contact one of our tax offices as soon as possible. A taxpayer is responsible for their property taxes, even if they do not receive a tax statement (Texas Property Tax Code Sec. 31.01(g).
Payments over the internet allow taxpayers to pay their taxes by electronic check in the convenience of their home or office over the internet 24/7 by going to cameroncountytx.gov/tac. Fees have been reduced when you pay online with an I-check (bank account and routing numbers are needed), beginning Oct. 1, 2022 a $2 fee will be charged for any payment made for $5,000.00 or less, and $5 for any payment made over $5,000.01 (electronic checks only). It is the responsibility of the taxpayer to make sure all accounts are included and banking information is correct to avoid additional fees. (3% fee added to all credit card and/or debit card payments)
Partial payments allow taxpayers to come into the office and pay their taxes in several payments.
Quarterly payments allow taxpayers who are over 65 years of age or disabled, to pay their taxes in quarterly payments without penalty and accruing interest in accordance with Texas Property Tax Code Sec. 31.031
