Imaginative and inspired, ‘Night of the Foolish Moon’ is a rare gem of romantic comedy

Special to the PARADE

Roger DiPietro, actor, teacher and aspiring knight errant, is having a quiet mental breakdown in his brother’s beach house when his 16th century musings are interrupted by the arrival of Bernadette, a beautiful gun moll, and key witness in the murder trial which his brother, Victor DiPietro, is currently prosecuting. Fearing for her life, Bernie turns to Roger DiPietro for protection and offers him the very thing for which he has been seeking — a lady to whom he can dedicate his quest.
Helped by Sancho, a genial squire, and Sancho’s boss,  a mysterious knight from another dimension, Roger DiPietro may succeed.  But Bernie can’t actually see his friends – they are, after all, imaginary. Will the arrival of his theatrical mother, who thinks the house full of odd characters would be perfectly cast in her summer stock production of “Man of La Mancha”, make Roger DiPietro seem more trustworthy, or confuse Bernadette completely? And if his own brother turns out to be the evil enchanter, is he brave enough to confront him?  Night of the Foolish Moon is a swiftly moving, wildly romantic comedy about truth, honor, love and the magic of the foolish moon. It is a fond homage to “Don Quixote”, that irrepressible dreamer, and celebrates life upon the stage, which invites us all to share the dream.
El Paseo Arts Foundation is delighted to present this rare gem of a romantic comedy at the South Padre Island Convention Center, on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, Jan. 16-19, 2023.  The lobby opens at 6:30 p.m. with a cash bar provided by Marcello’s Ocean Grille, and the curtain goes up at 7:30 p.m.
