The Lower Laguna Madre area’s special coastal natural beauty and biodiversity has been endearing to anyone lucky enough to live or visit the area. Nature’s offerings are especially enjoyed during the winter months by not just locals, but also by winter visitors in the likes of people and birds coming south to enjoy the subtropical climate of the southern coastal tip of Texas.
Nature is abounding this time of year and it is to be celebrated during the SPI Birding Nature Center & Alligator Sanctuary’s (SPIBNC&AS) 27th annual Winter Outdoor Wildlife Expo (WOWE). This multi-day expo offers attendants a special opportunity to enjoy and learn about the nature of the Lower Laguna Madre through a series of daily speakers comprised of local university research professors, coastal conservation biologists, local park rangers and naturalists, area TPWD Game Warders, expert fishing guides, Texas Master Naturalists from the two local chapters, as well as through live bird of prey shows and guided nature tours to area wildlife and birding hotspots via land and water!
This complete nature experience will bring awareness about what local wildlife agencies and researchers are doing to conserve local habitats and wildlife like the federally endangered American Ocelot, a handful of different sea turtle species, and the area’s special coastal birds, fisheries and sea life. Those interested in helping nature will learn from native plant gardening presentations how to create an environment that will attract colorful birds and butterflies.
Those more interested in learning how to enjoy a nice day’s catch out on the gulf or bay will enjoy fishing presentations by local expert fishing guides. WOWE will have something for every kind of nature enthusiast.
