Saturday, Feb. 25, the Port Isabel High School hosted the Port Isabel Noah LeBlanc Memorial Invitational.
The eight-team powerlifting meet featured 85 lifters and consisted of the following schools: Port Isabel (two teams), Lyford, Raymondville, Rio Hondo, Edinburg Idea, La Feria and Santa Maria. The qualifying meet was the last time a lifter could qualify for Regional competition.
Port Isabel’s top performers include Kaleb Clinton who won silver in the 198 lb. weight class with a total lift of 1320 lbs., a personal best (PB). The following four lifters won Bronze in their respective weight classes, Vicente Azuara with a total lift of 825, Aaron Barrera (1265)(PB), Christopher Gonzalez (985) and Carlos Cabrera (1295)(PB).
Other PI lifters results with place and total lift shown are as follows: Arnold Lopez, fourth, (785), Oreb Antonio, fourth, (825), Ivan Callejas, eighth, (710), Giovanni Gonzalez, eighth, (950)(PB), Omar Orduna, tenth, (855), Daniel Galvan, fourth, (1120), Eli Hoshino, fifth, (950), Joe Perez, sixth, (945), Sebastian Nelson, fourth, (925)(PB), Mario Nava, sixth, (1200), David Omelas, eighth, (1075)(PB), Luis Varela, fourth, (1155)(PB), and Isaias Santos, fourth, (1005)(PB).
Individual placement was based on the summation of the following three lifts: 1. Squat, 2. Bench Press, and 3. Deadlift. An athlete was awarded points as follows 7, 5, 3, 2 or 1 for finishing as one of the first five finishers in each weight class. Team placement resulted with the summation of the school’s combined individual awarded points.
