This past week the Port Isabel Tarpons track teams competed in the 45th Annual “RGVCA Meet of Champions” 2023 Track and Field Invitational. The two-day track meet was held on Friday and Saturday, March 24-25. The meet consisted approximately of 45 schools from the 6A ranks down to the 2A class including a handful of private schools. The 4A and Sub-4A Prelims were held at La Villa High School (men) and at Hidalgo High School (women). The finals were held at Harlingen’s Boggus Stadium.
On Friday’s women’s prelims, PI’s Emily Ramos finished in first place in the 100m Hurdles event with a time of 17.63 seconds. She followed that up by finishing in fourth place in the 300m Hurdles with a time of 55.40 seconds. Ramos along with Laura Mosqueda, Rebekah Camacho and Layni Mata finished in third place in the 4×400 Relay with a time of 4:35.08 minutes.
