Port Isabel hosting 7on7

On Saturday April 22 through Sunday, April 23, Port Isabel will be hosting two football-related events. First up is the 2023 HSSM 7on7 “Battle of South Texas Championship.” The two-day event will have 24 teams separated into six pools of four teams each. Day one pool play will begin at 9 a.m. with the last game starting at  noon.

Schools from all over the RGV will be in attendance, including Harlingen, Los Fresnos, Brownsville Veterans, Edinburg Vela, PSJA North, Mercedes, Edcouch-Elsa, Weslaco, Mission Veterans, Rio Hondo and Port Isabel.
Port Isabel will be assigned to Pool 1. Their first game will be against Santa Rosa at 9 a.m. followed by a second game against Edinburg Vela at 10:45 a.m. PI will close the day with a game against PSJA North at noon. On Sunday, the Tarpons will enter bracket play as they are scheduled to play the winner of Raymondville vs Santa Rosa game at 1:25 p.m. The sub-sequent winners will then go on to play at 2:40 p.m., then at 3:15 p.m. and end with a championship game at 4 p.m.

Also on Saturday, April 22, Port Isabel will be hosting a football combine, the “South Texas Super Regional” during the afternoon from 2:30-6 p.m. The event is one of many football combines held around the country by the Blue-Grey All-American Bowl organization. There is a nomination process where a coach, parent, scout or player can nominate a prospect to attend the combine at BlueGreyFootball.com. Prospects that received an official invitation to attend the combine can then register for any Super Combine listed on the website.
