On March 31, the Tarpon track teams traveled to Raymondville to compete in the Albert Tijerina 16th Annual Relays. The track & field meet had 23 schools attending. Besides Port Isabel, other notable schools included Brownsville Hanna, Brownsville Rivera, McAllen Memorial, Mission Veterans, PSJA, San Benito and Sharyland Pioneer.
In the men’s division, Port Isabel’s top performers were Kaleb Clinton, Anthony Garcia and Luis Ramos. Clinton won a bronze medal in the Discus event with a throw of 127’-04”. He also came in fourth place in the Shot-Put event with a throw of 42’-11”. Garcia came in fourth place in the Long Jump event with a distance of 20’-05.25”, setting a personal record (PR). In the running events, Ramos came in fourth place in the 200 Meters run with a time of 22.95 seconds (PR).
Other Port Isabel men’s results were as follows, Event: Athlete (place, time/distance).
100 Meters: Anthony Garcia, (8, 11.79), Eli Garza (10, 11.84)
200 Meters: Edward Garza (9, 23.39) (PR)
4×100 Relay: Eli Garza, Edward Sanchez, Luis Ramos, Anthony Garcia (7, 45.56)
4×400 Relay: Eli Garza, Edward Sanchez, Luis Ramos, Anthony Garcia (6, 1:37.32)
High Jump: Jeffery Smith (7, 5’-06”)
Long Jump: Luis Ramos (8, 19’-09.75”)
Triple Jump: Evan Galvan (5, 40’-6.75”)
The top three men’s teams were McAllen Memorial with 144 points, Mission Veterans Memorial 121, and Sharyland Pioneer 52. Port Isabel came in sixth with 35 points.
