American Legion News: Auxiliary and Post make donations

By CONNIE THOMAS

Ever wonder where the money goes? Curiosity killed the cat but satisfaction brought him back!
Our hats are off to all our true-blue patrons and our generous Winter Texan friends along with the many other outside contributors. Their participation in all Legion fundraisers throughout the year enabled us to make quite a few donations.

Starting with Auxiliary Unit 498, which is a separate organization from the Legionnaires, although we often work side by side, met their usual goal of two-thousand dollars for the year. Five-hundred dollars each went to their elected choices for the following veteran programs Cancer Research, VA&R Bed load/Comfort items, Continued Education and Creative Arts. An additional five-hundred dollars were donated to help Laguna Heights Hurricane Victims.

Twenty-four lap quilts made by The Chapel by the Sea and The Palm Dale RV Park quilters were delivered to the VA clinic along with items collected throughout the year in the American Military Support [AMS] box including 75 sweatshirts. The AMS box is located inside the Post and this Harlingen 501(C3) organization helps homeless vets and military families. Items collected all year include toiletries, socks, t-shirts, books, puzzles, gym bags, rain tarps, women’s pajamas, slippers and small household items.
