Holly Heatly is the new State of Texas American Legion Auxiliary President 2023-2024. Her first statement at the podium at the State of Texas American Legion Convention was “You’re always a unit member first”. Then she played Always be humble and kind by Tim McGraw as a testament to her devotion. Being a thirty-year member, she has served as several office positions from unit, to district, to division and state, as well as many veteran committee chairman positions. I, Connie Thomas, am proud to serve under her as the newly elected RGV District 15 President for 2023-2025.
The convention that was held in Austin, TX, this past weekend was all business. Reports from the executive committee members and the chairpersons for the veteran program committees were read and approved. Newly elected officers were voted in and all district presidents were installed.
The Past State President’s Parley Committee did break up the seriousness of the convention with a fun skit in honor of our outgoing president for 2022-2023. Maya Cooper’s, past president, theme this year was “Bearing for membership and caring for our veterans. We love our veterans and treat them like diamonds.” The skit featured two Elvis impersonators and several Marilyn Monroe impersonators throwing diamonds, candy and teddy bears.
