The Rotary Club of Port Isabel had the honor of hosting our sister club, The Rotary Club of Monterrey – Obispado this week. The clubs have been working together for more than 65 years to promote kindness, service and community. The Rotary Club of Port Isabel has helped to provide funds to Clínica Teresita in Monterrey to support health care for more than 48,000 people a year. Clinic needs from X-ray machines, microscopes, and ophthalmology and office equipment have been funded through the help of our club. Fishing, golfing and dinner were enjoyed by the clubs as we celebrated our friendship and service together.
The Rotary Club of Port Isabel welcomed two new members at the Sept. 15 meeting. Bonnie Marwitz of Port Isabel and Roin Khurami of South Padre Island were welcomed into the club by sponsor member Karla Schurin.
Following the induction, the club enjoyed an enlightening talk from Marc Crain of Island Pyros, LLC about professional firework displays. Crain discussed large displays as well as simple events that can be produced by his company. His designers use the latest Fireworks 3D rendering software to design and choreograph a show to a unique musical score for different events.
