This past Friday, Sept. 29, the Port Isabel Tarpons had a week six matchup against Vietnamitas Prepa 9, a high school team out of Mexico City. The game marks the second year Port Isabel will play two Mexican teams during weeks six and seven of the regular season. Last year, the Port Isabel team crushed both international visitors by a combined score of 101-9. Vietnamitas stepped in for the previous season’s opponent, Correcaminos Tamaulipas, but they were also overmatched, losing to the Tarpons 48-18.
Vietnamitas’ offense took the field first, but the team could not move the ball against the “Seawall Defense.”

The Tarpons held a total of three yards in their first two drives. Meanwhile, the Tarpons offense started the game with their third-string running backs as they tried to even the playing field. On a 4th and 1, the Tarpons sent in one of their top backs in AJ LeBlanc. In the blink of an eye, he was in the endzone after a 58-yard touchdown run.

The Tarpons quickly picked up the second touchdown as Edward Sanchez hit paydirt on a 31-yard untouched TD run. The Tarpons jumped to a 14-0 lead with 6:58 left in the first quarter.
