Rees Langston, the incumbent candidate for the South Padre Island City Council’s Position 4, is running for the position against challenger Tally Ragsdale. Like her opponent, she was born and raised in Texas. Langston has lived 24 years as a permanent resident of South Padre Island. She has a 40-year background in Information Technology, ending her career as a VP-Project Management Office for a multi-million-dollar company.
Langston has a long list of local civic engagement, including her position on the City Council since 2022, a SPI Walk for Women Committee member since 2007, and a Texas International Fishing Tournament (TIFT Challenge) Volunteer since 2002. She was also a Ladies Kingfish Tournament Committee Member from 2000-2005, was a Leadership Laguna Madre Class V Graduate, and served on the Leadership Laguna Madre Alumni Committee for two years.
“Two of my utmost goals is always to try to ensure that the citizens’ tax dollars are spent prudently and to support ordinances that successfully balance the needs of the residents of South Padre, the businesses that rely on tourism, and the tourists that drive our local economy,” said Langston. She added, “I also seek to improve communication to the residents on the status and progress of any current City projects.”
Among her achievements, Langston says that she has worked with the city’s staff and Dog Park Committee representatives to advance the local citizen’s drive for a dog park on the island, investigating possible locations and the subsequent land purchase to realize this goal.
