The 16-4A Division 2 Volleyball All-District selections have been recently released. Two seniors earned All-District honors as Valery Gonzalez was voted to the 1st Team All-District, and defensive specialist Kimberly Barrera acted as the team’s libero and was voted 2nd Team All-District.
Earning Tri-Newcomer of the Year is Kymberlie Estrada, who became one of the teams’ leading setters in her first year on varsity. Volleyball head coach Johvonne Howard was pleased with her performance during the season. “She had to learn how to run the offense and the demands of the sport. There would be games where she would play all five sets with no substitute. She did a tremendous job this year, and we are excited to have her for two more years.”, said Coach Howard.

Coach Howard will enjoy the experience the returning players have acquired, but she will also miss her seniors. “All in all, the coaching staff is satisfied with the selections. No matter the tide, we are proud of all of our young ladies. They have built another layer of armor for next year’s battle. We will deeply miss our eight seniors. They lost their freshmen year and partially their sophomore year. Many districts never shut down for COVID-19, and our kids lost time (and experience) they could never get back.
