On Tuesday, December 12, the Port Isabel Lady Tarpons basketball team hosted the Brownsville Harmony Wildcats in their first district game of the season.
Unfortunately, the Wildcats were overwhelmed by the Lady Tarpons from the get-go as Port Isabel jumped out to a 23-0 lead after one quarter of play.
The Lady Tarpons kept their foot on the pedal as they extended their lead to 31-0 at halftime, with guard Rebekah Camacho scoring 15 points in two-quarters of play.
As the second half got underway, Port Isabel worked on their passing as they tried to run out the clock and take as few shots as possible. They would pass the ball at least five or more times before shooting the ball as they eventually went on to win the game, 60-1.
Camacho finished as the leading scorer with 20 points.
Port Isabel’s head coach, Ramon Garcia, stated their main focus this season will be the La Feria and Zapata, but he was pleased with his teams’ performance.
