Cameron County Sheriff Eric Garza is calling attention to a reward being offered for information leading to the arrest of murder suspect Jacobo Hernandez Hernandez, age 41. Hernandez Hernandez is being sought in reference to a murder committed in Laguna Heights in July of this year.
Hernandez Hernandez is being charged with murder, a first-degree felony (Texas Penal Code 19.02), according to a press release from Garza’s office.
At about 2:30 a.m. on July 25, Cameron County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a shooting at the 200 block of Adams Avenue in Laguna Heights. Upon arriving at the scene, Deputies located the lifeless body of 27-year-old Christopher James De Leon with several gunshot wounds. Cameron County Sheriff’s investigators arrived to process the crime scene and launched an investigation into the homicide, according to the press release.
During the investigation, investigators obtained surveillance video and witness statements that helped identify Hernandez Hernandez as the alleged suspect, according to the release. Investigators secured a warrant for his arrest but still need the public’s help locating the suspect. The subject may be hiding in Mexico, authorities believe.
