This Tuesday, January 2, the Port Isabel Lady Tarpons took on the Raymondville Lady Bearkats in a home district game.

It was a rough start for both teams as their offenses struggled with their shot. Raymondville eventually got on the board with a 3-pointer and followed it up with a basket in the paint to go up 5-0. Port Isabel’s first points came off a free throw by Emily Burrage as the first quarter concluded with the Lady Kats leading 5-1.

As the second quarter got underway, PI’s Nadia Flaig hit a jumper, followed by a basket by Burrage as the Lady Tarpons now trailed 7-5. Raymondville’s offense seemed a bit sharper as they closed the first half with a 17-9 lead. Port Isabel’s offense still struggled with the turnovers, but there was a concerted effort to get the ball to Burrage, who finished with seven points in the quarter.

Port Isabel’s defense kept them in the game in the third quarter as they grabbed eight rebounds, three blocks, and two steals. Although the Lady Tarpons added six more turnovers in the third quarter, they still managed to outscore the Lady Bearkats, 10-9.
