The Laguna Madre Water District (LMWD) continues spotlighting its employees through its Employee of the Month Program, as Omar Jaramillo was notably selected the LMWD’s Employee of the Month for January 2024.
Jaramillo has been with the LMWD for three years, primarily at the water plant, and assists other departments, including distribution, and aids in various projects and tasks, such as leak remediation, among others.
He has earned his “C” license and is working on his “B” license. Jaramillo said that his goal is to obtain the Certified Water Professional (CWP) certification to better serve the LMWD and its customers.
Pablo Villarreal, Jr., LMWD Water Plant Manager, submitted the letter nominating Jaramillo stating, “Omar always has a positive attitude with every job duty assigned to him and accomplishes them promptly. Omar will take initiative on taking the new operator trainees and showing them the water treatment plant process along with the collection and running of the water samples.” Villarreal went on to describe Jaramillo as a “hard worker who pays attention to the details when given instructions, and gets along with co-workers.” Villarreal finished his nomination stating, “Omar will, one day, make a great leader for this company.”
In response to his award, Jaramillo shared that he was surprised and pleased by the recognition. “It feels great that they recognize my hard work and all I do.” He further remarked, “I enjoy working at the LMWD and at the water plant. It’s an important job providing good quality water to our community, and having great coworkers, and a good environment to work in is great!”
Jaramillo shared that along with working hard, he enjoys spending time and going to movies with his wife and children. He also enjoys fishing, acknowledging, “Whenever I get a chance, I go fishing on my kayak, especially after my work shift.”
LMWD officials noted that the entity is pleased to have such dedicated employees, such as Jaramillo, that enjoy their work and personal life. Jaramillo finished his interview by saying that he would like to share with others that, if they want a good place to work, he recommends the Laguna Madre Water District. “It’s a great place to start and learn with a good working environment and good people,” he said.
