The Department of Labor fined Dirty Al’s Restaurant in Port Isabel $6,328 for allegedly employing minors beyond legal work hours, violating federal child labor laws.

According to a Department of Labor press release, the restaurant employed eight minors as hosts and bussers, some as young as 14 or 15 years old.

“The employer required minors to work extended hours on school days, non-school days, and holidays, which exceed the limits set by federal law,” according to the Department of Labor.

The Department of Labor provides resources on their website to help employers understand their legal obligations and ensure they comply with federal labor laws, preventing future violations.

The intention of these laws is to protect young workers’ health, safety, and educational opportunities, ensuring that their employment does not interfere with their overall well-being and development, according to the Department of Labor website.

The PRESS contacted Dirty Al’s corporate location for comment, but there was no response as of press time Thursday morning.
