At the Cameron County Commissioners Court meeting on Aug. 27, Tony Reisinger, Marine Biologist, was honored for his work as the County Extension Agent for Coastal and Marine Resources.
The court honored Reisinger during their meeting for his 42 years of service to Cameron County. David Garza, Cameron County Commissioner, Precinct Three, made the announcement.
“Tony Reisinger has dedicated 42 years of exemplary service as the Cameron County Extension Agent for Coastal and Marine Resources, demonstrating unwavering commitment to the marine and environmental sciences,” said Garza.
Garza continued to list Reisinger’s academic accomplishments: a Bachelor of Science in Zoology from the University of Georgia in 1974, and a Master of Science and Biology from the University of Texas in Brownsville [now known as the University of Texas at the Rio Grande Valley] in 2006.
Garza also said that Reisinger began his career as a marine biologist for the Georgia Department of Natural Resources and later served as a Marine resource specialist with the University of Georgia Marine Extension Service, and then moved to Texas in 1982 where he would take a Cameron County position with the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension and Texas Sea Grant.
“Throughout his tenure, Tony has been instrumental in working with the Gulf of Mexico shrimp industry,” said Garza.
He shared that Reisinger co-founded the Texas Red Tide Rangers, partnering with UTRGV’s coastal studies lab on South Padre Island, and Texas Coastal Naturalists, a group that volunteers and responds to marine animal emergencies.
The PRESS spoke with Reisinger about the honor at the meeting.
