On Friday, Oct. 4, the Port Isabel Tarpons will be on the road as they take on the Roma Gladiators in a non-district matchup. This will be their first meeting ever.

In week four’s action, Port Isabel’s game with Hidalgo was canceled due to the weather. The game was rescheduled for the following day, but Hidalgo did not show up and forfeited the game. Meanwhile, Roma
played their game against Zapata and left with a 35-28 win as the Gladiators improved to 3-1 for the year.
Like the Tarpons, the Gladiators lean heavily on the run game. In their game with Zapata, Roma had 426 total yards, all rushing. Running back, Ruben Garcia Jr had a big night, rushing for 165 yards on 21 carries
and scoring four touchdowns. Fullback, Ediel Garcia also had a big night as he rushed for 93 yards on just four carries. For his size, Garcia has deceptive speed as he averaged 23.3 yards per carry. Roma’s QB, Jorge
Tamayo has his share of carries too, but can also throw the deep ball.

As for the Tarpons’ running game, it should be status quo as RB Luis Ramos (45 carries, 567 yards) will be spearheading the Tarpons’ rushing attack. PI’s bruising fullback, Bryan Cinfuegos (16 carries, 110 yards),
will come in for the tough yards. Rounding out the rest of the running back group are, Dylan Green (24 carries, 87 yards), Michael Finona (14 carries, 69 yards) and Jesus Ramos (six carries, 70 yards).
Tarpons will likely continue rotating QBs Bryan Martinez and Grayson Estes.

Defensively for the Tarpons, lookout for linebacker Edward Garza (22 tackles, 13 solo) to have another big game. Defensive End Christopher Gonzalez is due for a big game himself and he could see it if Roma stays
on the ground. PI secondary led by safety Anthony Garcia (18 tackles, 12 solo) should play close to the line of scrimmage to help against the ground game.

In other week four action, La Feria beat Valley View 34-0, Kingsville King beat CC King 26-25 and La Grulla lost to Brownsville Lopez 31-13.
