Many locations around South Padre Island, Port Isabel and Laguna Vista are preparing some spooky fun.
Gulf Guardians is hosting the Ohana-ween surf and costume contest on Oct. 26 at Barry’s Beach Bar. Gulf Guardians is a nonprofit organization dedicated to educating “future Guardians of the Gulf through
classroom support, professional development, events and community outreach programs.”
Bay B Boomers Bar and Grill will have a Halloween party and costume contest on Oct. 26. The contest will have cash prizes for the winner. Music and karaoke will be available at 8 p.m. Live music will be
performed by Junbug. The contest will start at 10 p.m.
Sea Turtle Inc. [STI] will hold a “Spooky Saturday” on Oct. 26. The official Facebook post says the day is full of fun activities such as squid dissection, coloring, corn hole, scavenger hunts and more. The event will
be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Family-friendly costumes are encouraged, but not required. Dogs are allowed but must be on a leash. Admission fees are $10 for adults, four dollars for children five-17, six dollars for
seniors older than 62 and military, and free for STI members. Attendees of all ages can participate in the activities.
The Port Isabel Volunteer Fire Department is slated to have a four-hour-long trick-or-treat event on Saturday, Oct. 26 at the lighthouse. The event is completely free to the public. Trick or treating will run from 6-8 p.m. A showing of the family-friendly movie Hotel Transylvania Transformania will start at 8 p.m. For more information, visit the official Facebook event listing on the Department’s page.
Driftwood Landing will hold a Halloween “pre-party” on Oct. 26 from 8:30 p.m.-1 a.m.
The South Padre Island Birding and Nature Center is hosting the annual Hallowings celebration. Held on the last Sunday of October, this event is a “celebration of monarch migration” from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The
official birding center website promises different activities ranging from a native plant sale to costume contests, and more. This year, the event lands on Oct. 27.
The South Padre Island Golf Club is hosting a haunted cart barn and trick-or-treat event on Oct. 30 from 5-7 p.m.
Friends of Animal Rescue and Clayton’s are teaming up for Howl-O-Ween, an afternoon of music, food, drinks and a special costume contest. The event will be on Oct. 31 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. The costume contest
will be for both dogs and humans. The top three dog prizes are $100, $50, and $25 Clayton’s gift certificates. The best dog and human costume together will be $50.
By the Bay, Electric returns to the spooky season with its haunted maze. Entry is free for all ages, from 7 p.m.-10 p.m. on Oct. 31. The Facebook listing for the event promises jumpscares, strobe lights and fog
machines.
The Coral Reef Lounge will host a Halloween party and costume contest from 8 p.m.-2 a.m. on Oct. 31. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three winners, and there will also be karaoke available starting at 9 p.m.
The South Texas Ecotourism Center will hold a Halloween festival on Thursday, Oct. 31, from 6-8 p.m. According to their Facebook announcement, there will be hands-on activities, trick-or-treating, a costume
contest and more. The event is free to the public.\
JJS Party Barn has a slew of parties slated for Halloween weekend. The first batch of parties run from Oct. 25-27. There is no cover fee for the weekend parties. There will also be an event on Nov. 2 with a costume
contest. First place will win $500, second place will get a VIP booth and service, and third place will receive three buckets of beer and rainbow shots. This event will require a cover fee of $10. The Oct. 25 and 26
parties will have music by D.J. Kel, and the Nov. 2 party will have music by DJ Don Fuego. For more information, contact JJ’s Party Barn at (956) 603-9536.
