A new shop is opening in Port Isabel near the Lighthouse on Friday, Nov. 1. Business partners Mike Misialek and Rich Powers are excited to introduce Salt Coast Living to the community.
Misialek and Powers have been operating three other shops within shared spaces including Treasure in the Attic and Co. in McAllen, Down Home Market in Harlingen, and Smudging and Spiritual Botanica in San Benito for the last year. The success of those three shops inspired the two to “put their foot forward” with the first independent location in Port Isabel.
The two have shared a love for the City of Port Isabel for the last few years. They come from the contrasting urban environment of Dallas, Texas, and lavish in the lack of traffic and other city-centric burdens. Misialek describes PI as a “charming old town.” Especially Lighthouse Square.
“As a coastal town, it’s just got so much personality,” said Misialek. “The people are so friendly, it’s amazing…It’s the perfect area and that’s why we are so excited to be located here.”
According to Misialek, three things set Salt Coast Living apart from other stores: their selection of merchandise and how well it gels together, their product’s quality and craftsmanship, and their affordability.
“There’s something in this store for every socioeconomic background,” said Misialek.
According to Misialek, he and Powers put their customers first when it comes to pricing because of the state of today’s economy and the difficulty it imposes on consumers.
“At this point right now, I am very cognizant of how much everything costs,” said Misialek. “The person who works for a living are the ones taking the biggest beating.”
Misialek wants those who are supporting their families, putting food on the table and a roof over their heads, to be able to purchase something nice for themselves too.
Their products are supplied by privately owned factories located in India. They plan to build products catered for specifically the Lower Laguna Madre, including charming coastal themes like turtles and other sea life.
However, their merchandising options will be far more than purely nautical. They have a diverse selection with themes ranging from western, spiritual, farmhouse to rustic.
One of their most popular products is their novelty watering cans. Inspired by the coastal wildlife, they will soon be carrying an option in the shape of a dolphin.
“The handy-craft element of our products – that’s really what sets us apart,” said Misialek. “All of this is hands-on artisanship.”
Salt Coast Living is located at 419 E. Maxan St., Port Isabel.
