The Port Isabel Winter Visitors Club is a nonprofit organization that provides the winter tourist population with information on businesses in the area.

The club showcases local businesses to their members using door prizes at the end of each meeting, which is set to occur every Tuesday from Nov. 19 to March 28 at 7 p.m. The meetings take place at the Laguna Madre Youth Center, formerly the Boys and Girls Club, at 190 Port Rd, in Port Isabel. The club encourages businesses to donate items for these door prizes such as cloth bags, gift bags, wind chimes and T-shirts. The club asks for a business card with a coupon to encourage more customer engagement as well. The club also recommends an expiration date on these coupons to engage urgency

.
“When you get your business card back, you have proof your advertising is working,” stated Duane Lee Baxter, club president.

According to the club, it was founded in 1972 for the “fellowship and entertainment of all winter visitors.” Now, they will celebrate their 53rd anniversary on Jan. 14 with a special event. There will be refreshments and a sponsor’s appreciation drawing for three presidential awards of $100, $50 and $25.

The anniversary event will be at the youth center as well. Doors will open at 6 p.m. The meeting will start at 7 p.m. For more information, contact Baxter at (956) 371-8018.
