A deceased body was pulled out of the Laguna Madre Bay near Queen Isabella Point at around 4 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 1.
The Texas Game Wardens first received reports of a missing man on Thursday, Oct. 31. Witnesses said they saw the man enter the water near Queen Isabella Point while wearing what looked like a weighted vest. Wardens assisted the Port Isabel Police Department (PIPD) and the U.S. Coast Guard in search efforts. After recovering the body, the Wardens stated that “the man was found as he was last seen.”
According to Wardens, after recovery, the Cameron County Medical Examiner took custody of the body and the Port Isabel Police Department conducted an investigation.
“There are many factors that affect the time it can take to recover a drowning victim. The initial search area is contingent upon where the victim was last seen, which is based on witness statements when that information is available, or a precise location may not be known. From there, the type of waterbody where the drowning occurred will affect the circumstances at play. The wind, weather conditions, boat traffic, water temperature, depth, clarity, possible debris in the water, currents and more can impact where the victim is found,” stated Maggie Berger, Texas Game Wardens Public Information Officer.
