The Art Business Incubator South Padre Island [ABI] is a non-profit working gallery dedicated to providing entrepreneurs with the tools needed to create a successful art business. Its ultimate mission is to transform
South Padre Island into a world-wide art-tourism destination. One way it provides its resident artists with opportunities is by allowing them to host art workshops. Each workshop is held inside the ABI gallery, located at 2500 Padre Blvd #1, South Padre Island. ABI recently announced its December lineup of classes.
Two resident artists, Itzel Lopez and Viviana Sanguino, will lead Muse Mondays: Painting Workshop, where participants will learn the basics of painting using watercolor or oils. This workshop is held weekly, each
Monday in December, Dec. 9, 16, 23 & 30.
Resident ceramicist Sofia Ivanna will lead Floral Ware Wednesday: Ceramic Plaque Workshop. Ivanna will lead participants through creating their own unique wall plaque or plate that captures the beauty of nature.
This workshop is slated for Wednesday, Dec. 11.
Participants of Throwing Thursday: Clay Workshop, will experience the magic of clay creation. Ivanna also leads this personal, hands-on pottery wheel lesson. According to ABI, this class is perfect for beginners.
Within the one-hour lesson, participants will learn the basics of wheel throwing, from centering the clay to shaping their unique piece. Afterward, ABI promises to take care of firing and glazing the creation, and
participants can even choose their favorite glaze.
Stamping Saturday: Ring Stamping and Soldering workshop offers the opportunity for participants to stamp and soldier their own sterling silver ring. It is slated for Saturdays in December, Dec. 7, 14 & 21.
At Setting Sunday: Set Your Own Stone workshop, participants will learn traditional techniques from shaping silver to setting stones. It is slated for Sundays in December, Dec. 8, 15, 22 & 29.
In the Winter spirit, ABI is hosting a special one-time Holiday Workshop on Sunday, Dec. 10, where participants will make their own gingerbread house welcome mat.
