On Monday, Feb. 10, the Lady Tarpons staged an impressive comeback to secure a 3-1 victory over the IDEA Robindale Aviators in a thrilling district matchup.
The game started with the Aviators taking an early 1-0 lead in the first half, putting the Lady Tarpons on the defensive. However, the second half saw a dramatic shift in momentum, as the Lady Tarpons responded with
three unanswered goals to claim the win.
Marishka Baston, Avery Lee and Melanie Hernandez found the back of the net, leading the offensive surge for the Tarpons. Their relentless attacks turned the tide of the game and put their team firmly in control.
On the defensive end, the Lady Tarpons held strong thanks to stellar goalkeeping by Desiree Viduarri. The backline, anchored by Juliana Grenier, Neveah Pust, Esmer Montoya, Brigette Montes, Karla Celis and Jubilee Montes, shut down the Aviators’ offense and prevented any further scoring in the second half.
With this victory, the Lady Tarpons improved to a 5-1 record, marking the halfway point of their district season.
The Lady Tarpons also defeated the Rio Hondo Bobcats 3-1, led by Lee with two goals and Mia Perdomo with one goal on Friday, Feb. 14.
On Monday, Feb. 17, the Lady Tarpons defeated the La Feria Lions 1-0 with a goal by Lee. The Tarpons held the Lions to zero goals thanks to their defense consisting of Escarlett Urrutia, Esmeralda Montes, Juliana
Grenier, Neveah Pust and Jubilee Montes. Goalie Vidaurri had seven saves during the game, but with the time winding down, made a crucial save to seal the Tarpons’ victory.
The Lady Tarpons are now 7-1 in the district and will face the Lady Rockets of IDEA Riverview at the Sports Park in Brownsville, Monday, Feb. 24, at 7 p.m.
